COVID-19 vaccination: Akwa Ibom NUJ makes case for inclusion of members
The Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) Akwa Ibom State Council, has called on the State Government to accommodate Journalists in the state in the first round of the vaccination against COVID-19, because of their daily job engagements which put them at greater risk of contracting the disease.
This was contained in a communique reached at the end of the monthly congress of the union which took place on Friday, 26/3/2021 at the Press Centre, Uyo and signed by the State Chairman and Secretary of the union, Comrade Amos and Dominic Akpan and members of the Communique Drafting Committee, Vivian Esshiet, Edidiong Udobia and Edidiong Idemokon respectively and sighted by MORENEWS.
The congress commended officials of the State Government for their exemplary leadership in taking part in the COVID-19 vaccination which according to them will go along way to help build cconfidence among members of the public to take the jabs.
The communique reads, “Congress called on the State Government to find lasting solutions to the lingering boundary crisis, communal clashes and land disputes in parts of the State to avoid continuous loss of lives and property.
“Congress also called on the State Government to take drastic and urgent measures to tackle insecurity in parts of the State.
“Congress equally extended her solidarity to security agencies in the State over attacks on their personnel in parts of the State, recently.
“Congress, again urged the State Government to conduct the Executive Class examination for holders of HND in the State Civil Service, noting that it is not the fault of this category of workers and that it smacks of insensitivity to their career progression by denial of their promotion on the ground of not writing the examination even when they had paid the mandatory fees for the examination three years ago.”
