Church of Christ – Nigeria holds 2022 National General Meeting in Uyo
The Church of Christ- Nigeria has held its 20th National General Meeting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital with a charge on members to take evangelism of the gospel of Christ seriously.
The NGM which took place at Church of Christ 170 Ikot Ekpene Road Uyo was hosted by the Board of Trustees of the Church in Nigeria and well attended by delegates from the Congregations of the Church in Nigeria.
In his opening remarks, the Chairman, of BoT CoC – Nigeria, Elder PS Equere who welcomed members of the Board and delegates to the NGM thanked the organisers (planning committee) of the NGM and congregations in Akwa Ibom State for creating a conducive atmosphere for deliberations of matters affecting the Church.
He also commended the work done by the BoT Standing Committees in Akwa Ibom State and Cross Rivers State for successfully resolving issues involving brethren in some congregations in their domains.
He raised alarm over the wild spread of heresy by some preachers and explained what the board has done to nip such heretic teaching in the bud by ensuring that all Bible Institutions adopt a unified curriculum and other modus operandi that will help them checkmate graduates from their institutions from preaching heresy when employed by congregation.
The Chairman also lauded the initiators and promoters of the Church of Christ – Nigeria Media Project for the idea which he described as “novel” and also help in evangelism through the media. He noted that the BoT holds the project in very high esteem and prays for the successful completion of the project.
He noted that the matter at COC Ikot Mbonde Itam in Akwa Ibom State that led to them independently registering the congregation with CAC has been resolved and the parties have sheath their sword and agreed to come together in the same congregation and remain in Church of Christ as they have been deregistered by CAC following the truce.
Elder P. S. Equere called on congregations to encourage youth development as they are the future of the Church while commending CoC youths in Nigeria for their contributions to church’s growth.
He called on congregations to take advantage of the Gospel Chariot and other Evangelism-assisted facilities to preach the gospel in their localities while thanking the donors of those facilities.
The Chairman lamented poor funding of CoC – Nigeria BoT and solicited support from other congregations to the board to be able to carry out their task for the benefit of the Church.
He decried the inability of the Church of Christ in Nigeria to ascertain its numerical strength, the population of members and the number of congregations in the country and appointed Bro Orji O. Orji to liaise with other members to carry out the task of ensuring accurate number of Christians and congregations in the country.
Meanwhile, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel who was represented by the Commissioner for Labour and Man Power, Mr. Aniefiok Nkom commended the organisers of the NGM for bringing the meeting to Akwa Ibom State and solicited the fervent prayers of the Church for peace and prosperity of the state while pledging his support to the Church of Christ.
Special prayers was offered to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel and the people of the state for peace and prosperity while the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Ini Ememobong who donated generously to the church was commended for his numerous contributions to the growth of the Body of Christ in Nigeria
