Breaking: Pastor Umo Eno beats 13 other aspirants to emerge Akwa Ibom PDP Governorship candidate
The immediate past Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno has emerged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship flag bearer in the 2023 general elections after beaten 13 other aspirants in the just concluded party primaries.
Pastor Umo Bassey Eno polled a total of 993 votes out of a total of 1018 vote cast by the ad-hoc delegates drawn from the 31 local government areas.
The Governorship primaries which took place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, in a serene, peaceful atmosphere as the former commissioner defeated other aspirants in all the 31 LGAs, 10 Federal Constituencies and 3 senatorial districts in the state in a landslide victory
The Akwa Ibom State Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barr Mike Igini, alongside other officials of the Commission, were on hand to monitor the exercise in line with Constitutional provisions.
The Akwa Ibom PDP Governorship Primary Committee had Edo State Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu as Chairman while Barr Edwards Ayo-Odugbesan served as Secretary. Other members of the 6-man Committee were Hon Mamman Usman, Hon Stephen Ibrahim, Barr K, Njoku and Hon Mariam Bala.
Earlier, two of the major contenders for the PDP governorship ticket Obong Bassey Albert (OBA) and Rt Hon. Onofiok Luke had announced their withdrawal from the race citing various reasons.
OBA in his letter of withdrawal ostensibly cited a subsisting court case in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/606/22 at the Federal High Court Abuja where his lawyer wrongly interpreted the judge’s advice for parties to maintain status quo ante bellum pending the hearing of the case as an order of the court.
Meanwhile, Hon Akan Okon, Mrs Moses Janet Edem, and others have congratulated Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of official declaration of results of the Akwa Ibom PDP Governorship Primary in Uyo.
