His entry into this terrestrial plane on March 26, 1956 was greeted with great excitement and deafening aplomb.
His birth presaged greatness and gave unblurred inkling into a man that will do exploits in life.
Little wonder then that his life trajectory has been on a steady rise, overcoming life’s bumps along the way to finding his footing in a life lived purposefully and with clear-cut vision and mission to stand out in excellence.
Born in Ikot Akpan Abia in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Rt.Hon. Emaeyak Nkanga Ukpong Ph.D is a seasoned grassroots politician and highly experienced academic with vast professional and research interest in Biotechnology and Petrochemical Science.
A top-notch motivational and passionate counsellor imbued with clinical communication skills and armed with a burning desire to find challenging and progressive role to offer to his country and citizenry, centered around the enthronement of a just and egalitarian society. Emaeyak Ukpong is anxious to maximize every opportunity for career growth, personal development and growth.
A man with deep love and value for education and self-development, Hon. Dr. Emaeyak Nkanga Ukpong started his educational journey in 1962 and got his First School Leaving Certificate with distinction in 1968 from Boecler Memorial Lutheran School, Nung Oku Ibesikpo, Akwa Ibom State.
His high school Odyssey at Lutheran High School, Obot Idim, Ibesikpo spanned between 1969 to 1973. There, he obtained his West African School Certificate. A B.Sc. in Microbiology from the University of Ilorin was to follow. This academic journey started in 1977 and climaxed in 1981.
His undying passion for knowledge saw him pursue another certification in the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria between 1985 and 1987 where he bagged an M.Sc. in Industrial and Environmental Microbiology.
Not one to rest on his laurels, Dr. Emaeyak Ukpong took his academic pursuit a notch higher in 1987. This culminated in the erudite scholar obtaining in grand style, a Ph.D in Microbiology from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria in 1991.
Dr. Emaeyak Nkanga Ukpong Ph.D has vast working experience in various capacities, especially within the university circuit.
Between 1980 and 1981, he manned the position of Financial Secretary/Treasurer, UNILORIN Student Union Government (SUG). From 1994 to 1996, he was a member, Governing Council, F and GPC, University of Uyo. He later became Chairman, Association of Labour Veterans, Akwa Ibom State from 2012 to 2018. His leadership prowess led to his reign in 1990 as Chairman, Post Graduate Students’ Association.
He was to later become member, University of Uyo Governing Council between 1993 to 1996. His grasp of the tenets of leadership led him to later become Chairman, Academic Union of Universities (ASUU) and was equally UNIUYO and ASUU NEC member from 1993 to 1996. With all this, becoming a Senior lecturer in Microbiology from 1985 to 1996 was the icing on his life’s decorated cake.
In the political arena, Dr. Emaeyak Ukpong has held the following offices:
Member House of Representatives, Uyo Federal Constituency 1999 – 2003.
Executive Chairman, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA 1997 – 1998.
His political engagements and Strategic Services have seen him contest the following positions:
In 2023, he was the Senatorial Candidate, APC, Akwa Ibom North East (Uyo) Senatorial District in the general election. In the same year, he was a member of the Presidential Campaign Council for the Election of President Bola Tinubu.
Between 2018 to 2019, he was a Member, Presidential Campaign Council for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In 2019, he was the Akwa Ibom State Co-Ordinator for Good Governance Ambassadors of Nigeria (GOGAN) Support Group for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari.
In 2018, he was a Financially Certified Contestant (Aspirant) to the Uyo Senatorial District Seat under the APC.
Between 2018 and 2019, he was a Member and Chairman of Inter-Party Relations Committee of O.N.E Campaign Council, for the Akwa Ibom State APC National Assembly, Governorship and State Assembly elections.

Between 2002 and 2003, he was the Deputy Chairman, House of Reps Committee on Boundary Matters. In the same year, he was to later become a member National Assembly (NASS) Committee on review of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Between 1999 to 2003, he was Chairman House of Reps Sub- Committees on Environment (Environmental Impact Assessment); Labour (Trade Unionism).
During the same time between 1999 – 2003, he was Member House of Reps Committees on Appropriation, Population and Inter Parliamentary Affairs.
From 1999 to 2002, he was Ag Chairman, House Ad Hoc Committee to Investigate the expenditure of N300b on Federal Roads. He was Member, House Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Matters 2021-2023. Between 2001 – 2003 Member, House Committee on Population and National Census.
He was to later become Member, NASS LOC on Commonwealth Parliamentary Union Conference, Abuja.
In 2002, he was a member of the AKS Governor’s Contingent to the London Conference on GEF sponsored distinguished person lecture on Global Environmental Challenges.
Dr. Emaeyak Nkanga Ukpong has had a stellar private and public life. From 1999 to date, he has held the position of Chairman/Technical Director, Greenworld Scientific Nigerian Limited; an independent environmental and engineering consultancy outfit.
From 1999 to 2001, this pragmatic gentleman was the staff adviser and consultant to the following NGOs: Organization for Youth Development (OFYD) and Scientific Foundation for the Development of Tropical Communities (SFORDTRUC), among others.
He has also offered his expert consultancy services to different organizations and companies including but not limited to serving as Principal Technical Consultant to Greenworld Scientific (NIG) LTD on the Federal Ministry of Water Resources/World Bank Project on Urban Water Reform Program, Abuja from 1995 to 2006.
Between 1995 to 1996, he was there for for Post Impact Assessment Studies of Shell East Operations in Obigbo, Port Harcourt for UNIUYO CONSULT; Effects of oil spillage on the water quality in Iko, Eastern Obolo LGA for Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection Agency, AKSEPA, Uyo, and many others.
To further broaden his burgeoning horizon, Dr. Emaeyak Ukpong has attended several conferences, seminars and workshops like, Workshop on Nigeria Climate Change Capacity Development Project: Awareness Raising Workshop for Legislators. National Assembly, Abuja organized by Nigeria Environmental Study/Action Team in conjunction with Global Change Strategies International (GCSI) Incorporated – a Canadian Firm from November 29-30, 2001.
In 2002, he was in attendance at the Conference on the Africa Environmental Management Strategies Peer Review – a global Environment Facility, GEF series. British Parliamentary Building, London; Conference on the Strategic Action Plan for the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria organized by NDDC held at Isaac Boro Civic Centre, Port Harcourt, Nigeria (2003); Conference on Political Stability before and after Unification at Stuttgart, Berlin and Karlshruhe, Federal Republic of Germany (August 26 to September 4, 2001, among others.
Dr. Emaeyak Nkanga Ukpong is a member, Nigeria Society for Microbiology and member, Nigerian Conservation Foundation.
Within his community, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, he has not been found wanting as he has been the Chairman, Project Committee, Civic Centre, Ikot Akpan Abia (1986-1990); Chairman, Ikot Akpan Abia Youth Association/Football captain (1978/1980) and from 2001 to date, Chairman, Lutheran University Establishment Project, Obot Idim, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
In the area of ICT, he is well grounded in Microsoft Office Suit Applications and Microsoft Excel.
An avid reader, traveller and Chess player, Dr. Emaeyak Nkanga Ukpong is a Christian, widower blessed with four adult children.
There is no gainsaying that the appointment of this detribalized political chieftain, academic and seasoned administrator by President Bola Tinubu as Chairman, Governing Council, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana will birth a new era of academic excellence and general development.
