Atzu to partner media in sports development in Cross River
In a bid to foster collaboration and enhance the development of sports in Cross River State, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Cross River State chapter, on Monday paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Agnes Atzu, Commissioner for Sports Development.
Led by the state chairman of SWAN, Comrade Mike Abang, the association sought to establish a partnership with the ministry and appeal for the commissioner’s support in taking sports to new heights within the state.
During the meeting, Comrade Mike Abang expressed the association’s eagerness to work hand in hand with the ministry to promote sports and its related activities in Cross River State.
Recognizing the importance of sports in fostering unity, talent development, and overall societal growth, SWAN emphasized the need for a collaborative effort between the media and the government to achieve these goals.
The chairman highlighted the pivotal role that sports journalists play in promoting and showcasing the achievements of athletes, teams, and sporting events.
He emphasized the importance of accurate and timely reporting, which not only informs the public but also serves as a catalyst for increased participation and support for sports in the state.
Comrade Mike, also pointed out that the last administration failed in their responsibilities in developing the dying ministry, hence, the need to champion the way forward.
He commended the commissioner for finding time to receive members of the fourth estate of the ramp in her office and promise to rededicate themselves and express full commitment to the growth of sports in Cross River State.
However, the SWAN chairman also pointed out areas where the association believes the ministry could provide further support including opening doors the ministry for journalists for regular interactions.
