Attorney General lauds Governor Emmanuel for entrenching grassroot democracy in Akwa Ibom
Governor Udom Emmanuel has been commended for entrenching democratic governace at the local government level in Akwa Ibom State.
The State Attorney General of the State, Mr Uwemedimo Nwoko (SAN) who stated this while interacting with the press at Ika Local Government Area during the just concluded local vovernment elections in the state, added that the governor is serious about delivering dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
Nwoko stressed that the governor is determined to ensure that development gets to the local government areas in the state.
“That is why the governor did not want to appoint transition committees in the local government areas but rather insisted on a democratically elected chairmen at the local government area,” the state Attorney General noted.
He noted that the election went well in all the local government areas and has been adjudged free and fair but regretted the absence of the major opposition party, the All Progressive Party (APC) at the polls.
Also speaking.,while casting his vote, the PeoplesDemocratic Party Candidate, Mr Malachy Ukpong, lauded Governor Udom for giving democracy a chance to thrive in the local government area.
He noted that he has no opposition in the election, stating that Ika people will benefit from his administration when sworn in as the chairman of the council.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chapter Chairman for Ika described the party as the most democratic party in the state and expressed optimism that the party will sweep all the wards and council seats in the state.
