ARISE Agenda: Akwa Ibom Ministry of Labour partners journalists on human capacity development
The Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning has reiterated its resolve to increase human capacity development in the State, inline with the ARISE Agenda programme of Governor Umo Eno.
This position was made known yesterday, when the Sensor Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Commissioner for Labour and Manpower Planning, Hon. Aniefiok Nkom.
Nkom, who spoke through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Effiong Nicholas, expressed the ministry’s readiness to partner journalists in the aspect of promoting its activities centered on manpower planning and industrial relations.
Welcoming the Sensor Chapel members to the Ministry, the Commissioner disclosed that its ministry had been mandated by the immediate past administration to manage the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre at Ikot Ada Idem in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
According to him, the centre is equipped with facilities to provide different skills in automobile, tailoring, welding, fisheries, among others, stressing that the centre, when put to use will provide numerous skills to persons who will in turn become employers of Labour.
He appreciated the role of journalists in information dissemination, of which he noted has over the years gained tremendous improvement, especially in the aspect of constructive criticism, while at the same time cautioning against sensationalism.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Sensor Chapel, Comr. Michael Ufot said the visit was an avenue to interface with the ministry’s management and to enable its members have first hand information on its operations.
Ufot who was flanked by the Chapel executive, including Ms. Deborah Ekanem, the Secretary and Mr. Akan Akpan, Vice Chairman, congratulated the Commissioner on his reappointment, while pledging its readiness to partner the ministry, in the aspect of information dissemination.
He also invited the Commissioner to be part of the Sensor Chapel Press Week, billed to take place in the last quarter of this year, particularly to present talks on how best report the activities of the ministry.
Present during the visit were Directors of Ministry and selected members of the Sensor Chapel of the NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council.
