Anambra 2021: Court hangs Soludo’s fate, declares Umeoji APGA candidate
As the countdown to the Anambra State governorship elections continues, the High Court in Owerri qdecided in favor of Chukwuma Umeoji as the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship flagbearer on Thursday, August 19, 2021.
The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to re-legitimize the Owerri Convention, which elected Jude Okeke as the party’s Chairman.
In the same way, the court dismissed Victor Oye’s lawsuit, which sought to prevent the electoral board from recognizing and publishing Umeoji’s name as the party’s candidate in the next election.
Victor was given permission to appeal the previous judgment, but the court refused to grant a stay of execution order.
The court also went ahead to reaffirm its earlier judgment.
INEC has been ordered to continue to recognize Umeoji as the candidate of the party and Jude Okeke as the chairman pending the determination of the appeal filed by Victor Oye at Appeal Court Owerri.
Following the judgement of the court today, the electoral body has been restrained from removing the name of Umeoji as the candidate of APGA from its list.
Recall that the court of Appeal in Kano, on August 10, set aside another judgment of the Jigawa High Court which also held that Chief Jude Okeke is National Chairman of APGA and the congress held by him is valid.
The court, however, did not state who is the valid candidate of the party in the forthcoming election.
