Akwa United: Akwa Ibom SWAN sympathises with Uyo club over involement in auto crash
The Chairman, Sport Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Akwa Ibom State chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Akpan has, on behalf of the association, sympathized with the management of Akwa United FC over the club’s involvement in an accident along Ezionye Express Road in Enugu today.
Comrade Akpan in a swift reaction expressed thanks to God for not allowing the incident to get out of hand.
The State SWAN Chairman pointed out that the incident may affect the performance of the club that is targeting top position in the Nigerian top-flight league and prayed God to strengthen the players.
Comrade Akpan while sympathising with the management of the club called for prompt psychological check on the players and officials to help ward off the effect of the incident.
The State SWAN helmsman who is also the Sports Editor, The Ink Newspaper, called for a holistic review of the transport system to avert reoccurrence.
According to the media Officer of Akwa United, Mr. Mfon Patrick, the team was on their way to Kaduna for the Nigerian Professional Football League match-day 15 against Jigawa Golden Stars.
Mr. Patrick who confirmed this to newsmen said the incident has left injuries on players and officials of the club.
He stated that one player and two officials have been taken to the hospital as at the time of this report.
With this, Akwa United FC have become the third Nigerian clubside to involve in an accident on their way to honor the NPFL game this season.
Kwara United and Wikki Tourists of Bauchi have also faced similar incidents this year.
