Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly waxes stronger through treaty with God -Speaker:
The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has attributed the peace being enjoyed by Members and staff of the Assembly to a treaty with God.
The Speaker made the assertion on Tuesday, when he led a cross section of Members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to a Monthly Prayer Meeting at the Prelate Mbang’s Chapel in Uyo.
He said the 7th Assembly has recorded giant strides in lawmaking and oversights, owing to the synergy among Members, a situation he noted has been made possible through the grace of God and the support of Akwa Ibom people.
“I appreciate the body of Christ for their love and support for us. I believe that as the 7th Assembly, this is the greatest gift we’ve gotten. We came in during the worst recess and after that, we had the Covid-19 recess. But by the grace of God, this is the most peaceful Assembly. We are waxing stronger through the grace of God.
“Since our inauguration, we have been together in peace and harmony, despite the travails of recess, Covid-19 and paucity of funds. It is because of the sacrifices made by our people and great Men of God who have not relented efforts in praying for peace in Akwa Ibom State,” he said.
The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly said that the state has been generally peaceful, despite the crisis occasioned by the End SARS protest, stressing that the state can only witness more development and economic growth in a conducive atmosphere.
He thanked the leadership of the Prelate Mbang‘s Chapel for uniting Christians across various denominations.
He announced a monthly donation of two drums of diesel by Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to facilitate God’s work at the Chapel.
Earlier, the Guest Minister, Bishop Enobong Essien while preaching on the theme ‘Into Your Hands, We commit Akwa Ibom State’, from Palms 31:5, admonished Christians to continue seeking God’s face to overcome the various challenges bedeviling the state and nation.
Founder of the Chapel and Prelate Emeritus of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr Sunday Mbang, took out time to pray for lawmakers from Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and charged them to better the lot of humanity using their privileged positions.
The event featured prayers for the nation, state, the Church, Governor Udom Emmanuel and Akwa Ibom people.
