The Akwa Ibom State government has finally confessed to ‘deliberately’ sacking an employee of Ibom Airlines Company Limited, Mr. Daniel Utomette
The commissioner for information and strategy, Ini Ememobong stated this today, while on a live radio interview on Inspiration FM, Uyo.
The Commissioner was giving explanations on how Akwa Ibom indigenes were buying the flour produced by the King’s Flour Mill of the state at exorbitant prices outside the shores of the state.
He said the people had doubted the existence of the mill in the state which made the producers to sell the flour to outsiders who then gave them out at higher rates to indigenes who traveled outside the state to buy the product.
Ememobong likened their ‘disbelief’ to that of a young man who said that Ibom Airline was a scam but went to apply at the company during recruitment.
His words, “The young man said Ibom Airlines was a scam. He went and applied at the scam and he could not stand the scam.”
It could be recalled that Daniel Utomette had applied to the newly operated Ibom Airlines in early 2019.
Mr Utomette was eventually employed at the company, after passing through rigorous recruitment exercises.
The said Daniel Utomette was sacked from Ibom Air on May 9, seven days after he was employed as a catering handler.
Following the outcry that trailed the dismissal, the state government had denied sacking Utomette for publicly supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The government, after much critism, said Mr Utomette was sacked because he did not pass his medical examination.
“This is to inform you that your services will no longer be required. This takes immediate effect,” said the termination letter, signed by Idorenyin Eddie, a human resources manager in Ibom Airlines Ltd.
Mr Utomette had told newsmen that the governor’s media aide, Mr Aniekeme Finbarr, through a Facebook post, started the campaign that led to his dismissal.
Till date, Mr Daniel Utomette stands dismissed from the services of the company which has now been established as being fully owned by the government of Akwa Ibom State led by Governor Udom Emmanuel of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
