Akwa Ibom State Government partners USAID on N50,000,000 cash transfer programme.
As part of the numerous activities put in place to drive the completion agenda of His Excellency, Deacon Udom Emmanuel on Health, orphans and vulnerable children, the Department of Multilateral and Donor Agencies in collaboration with Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Women Affairs today flagged off the maiden lunch of the cash transfer program in favour of orphans and vulnerable children in the state.

The program which is implemented by the centre for clinical Care and Clinical Research (CCCRN) and supported by the United States Agency for International Development(USAID) on Integrated Child Health and Social Service (ICHSSA) for orphans and vulnerable Children (OVC) in Akwa Ibom State is aimed at ensuring that orphans and vulnerable children are cared for and protected by their households, comminities, local and state government by reducing their vulnerability to several diseases.
In view of the above, 1250 vulnerable households were today selected across 14 pilot Local Governments( Uyo, Ikot-Ekpene, Okobo, Eket, Mbo, Oron, Oruk Anam, Ibesikpo Asutan, Mkpat Enin, Ukanafun, Obot Akara, Itu, Nsit Ubium and Ini) to benefit from the first tranche of the N50,000,000 (Fifty Million Naira) maiden cash transfer program with a plan to reach more households.
It is expected that this project will improve households, food consumption needs and the general wellbeing of the beneficiaries’ households.
Also in attendance were the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Women Affairs, Dr Ini Adiahkpan, CCCRN Chief of Party, Dr Adekoya Peters, Hon Benson Ekam, Secretary, Ikot Ekpene LGA( Chairman’s Rep) and various by implementing partners of USAID and United Nations.
