Akwa Ibom State Government donates textbooks, COVID-19 sanitation materials to primary schools in the state
In furtherance of its commitment to ensure quality Basic Education as well as safeguard the school population from the dreaded disease, Akwa Ibom State Government has allotted textbooks and COVID-19 sanitation materials to public primary schools in the State.
In an interview with Morenews after handing over the items at St. Michael’s African School, Effiat Offot, Uyo, the Executive Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Universal Basic Education Board, Prof Maria Ikorok averred that the exercise became necessary as a practical follow up to the last State Government’s training on precautionary measures of COVID-19 pandemic for Basic School administrators.
Prof Ikorok who said that the distribution was holding simultaneously in all Local Education Authorities in the State, tasked Head Teachers to properly put to use the items for the safety and intellectual development of the pupils.
She stated that His Excellency, the government is poised at positively changing the future of the children, hence the copious essential provisions made to Basic Schools across the State.
According to the Chairman, the supplies was made possible through the collaboration of the State with the Universal Basic Education Commission, Abuja.
The Don who was in company of Board Member 3, Hon. Inibehe Etukudo, Permanent Secretary, Elder Ezekiel Umoh, Director, Social Mobilisation, Mrs. Ammah Israel, charged the Head Teachers to uphold the guidelines and safety protocols of COVID-19, so as to checkmate the spread of the disease in their schools.
The Chairman also disclosed that for timely and effective distribution process, the Board has constituted teams made up of staff to cover the various LEAs in the State.
At QIC Primary School, Awa Iman, Onna, the SUBEB Boss, admonished Head Teachers to safe keep the textbooks supplied and give the pupils access to the textbooks, so that the State Government’s good intention would be achieved.
Items distributed include; sanitisers, buckets, serviette, pails, disinfectant, face masks, liquid soap, science, computer, mathematics and English language textbooks.
In their separate remarks, the Head Teachers, St. Michael’s Primary School, Effiat Offot, Uyo, Deaconess Victoria Jacob and QIC Primary School, Awa Iman, Onna, Mrs. Esther Ekpo expressed sincere appreciation for the items supplied and promised to abide by the COVID-19 protocols.
