Akwa Ibom police repel hoodlums’ invasion of police station
Police in Akwa Ibom have proved their resilience and capacity to tackle spate of insecurity in the state after resisting a coordinated attempt by hoodlums to invade Essien Udim Police station.
Morenews.ng gathered that the incident happened in early hours of Monday, was aimed at overpowering the police and cart away riffles but they were rebuffed by the powerful and technical efforts of officers and men of the police.
Security personnel in the state have been subject of hoodlums’ attacks in recent times, particuarly in the Essien Udim division, a situation that have prompted security alerts in area as police reenforced their intelligent gathering.
Trouble started on Monday morning when some hoodlums, suspected to be cultists, numbering hundreds, stormed the police division and started opening fire on the police.
The attack took place around 2am this morning and operated till 3am when they were repelled by the gallant police.
However, offices, several vehicles and generating set were burned in the process.
The combined efforts of the police and the mobilisation ingenuity of Essien Udim local government council chairman, Hon Anthony Luke, paid off as the police successful resisted the invasion without losing any Officer or riffle.
Reacting to the development, the Executive Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Area, Me Anthony Luke, commended the gallantry of the men of the Nigeria Police Force, insisting that there is going back in his a avowed commitment rid Essien Udim of criminal elements.
