Akwa Ibom NUJ condemns “killings” in Nkari Community, tasks security agencies to stop cult clashes in Oruk Anam
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council has condemned the alleged killing and wanton destruction of property in the lingering crisis in Nkari Community in Ini Local Government Area.
This was contained in a seven point communique reached at the monthly congress of the union on Friday, 30 October 2020 and jointly signed by the State Chairman of the Union, Amos Etuk and Secretary, Dominic Akpan and sighted by Morenews.ng
The congress tasked security agencies put an end to the prolonged cult clashes in Inen communities, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, which had claimed many lives and displaced over 3000 natives.
In the way, the union also tasked the state government to look into the boundary crisis between Usaka Annang Community in Akwa Ibom and Abia State to towards finding lasting solution to the crisis.
“Congress urged the State Government to look into the demands of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Akwa Ibom State Council to avert the planned labour strike.
“Congress commended the State Government for its infrastructural development at Ikot Oku Ikono junction, but urged it to come down hard on the contractor handling the flyover project so that it will be completed soon to reduce the suffering of the travelling public. In the same vein, Congress urged the State Government to ensure all alternative routes around Ikot Oku Ikono junction are paved for unhindered vehicular traffic.
“Congress condemned the destruction of public and private property by hoodlums in Akwa Ibom State, under the guise of ENDSARS protest.
“Congress urged relevant authorities in the State to evacuate the decomposing corpse at Ikpa road for the sake of public health and safety.
Highlight of the congress was the state of the nation address by the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah and a paper presentation by Mr. Nsikak Idiong of the University of Uyo, on Strengthening Government – Media Relations.
The union commended Obong Victor Attah for his untiring advocacy for restructuring of Nigeria and true federalism.
