Akwa Ibom NIPR elects new officers
The Akwa Ibom State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has elected a new set of officers that will pilot the affairs of the Institute for the next two years.
The Chapter Election, which was keenly contested and witnessed by over 92 members, threw up the Public Relation Officer of the Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Comrade Manasseh Umoette, who clinched 28 votes to defeat his main contender and former Vice Chairman of the Chapter, Mrs. Mercy David of the Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation (26 votes), as the Chairman.
Darlington Udobong, the Managing Editor of Ibom Telegraph and former Secretary of the Chapter, emerged the Vice Chairman with 43 votes against 16 votes scored by his opponent, Edet Abia of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, while Anthony Udoh and Mrs. Edidiong Inyang of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) were unanimously elected as Secretary (53 votes) and Assistant Secretary (52 votes).
The election also threw up Mrs. Emem Okon of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic as the Treasurer with 43 votes against 14 votes scored Mrs. Nsisong Ben of the Ministry of Information, while Dr Uduak Iwok of the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic emerged the Financial Secretary, scoring 33 votes to defeat Mrs. Affiong Ndehedehe with 23 votes.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr Unwana Charles, announced the results of the election.
The representative of the President and Chairman of the NIPR Governing Council, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, who was the Returning Officer, announced all winners elected and presented each with Certificate of Return.
The event was preceded by the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) and witnessed by the State Commissioner of Information and Member of Council, Comrade Ini Ememobong; the Zonal Director of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, Dr Uduak Obot, and Fellows of the Institute.
In his remarks, the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Umoette, sued for the cooperation and support of every member of the Institute, promising to run an all inclusive and transparent government.
He commended Mrs. David for putting up a great contest and appealed for her collaboration and cooperation for the betterment of the Chapter.
