AKSFA Chairman to partner SWAN
The Acting Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Football Association, AKSFA, Rt. Hon. Imoh Attat has pledged to partner the Akwa Ibom State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN in carrying out it’s legitimate functions among which is, the organization of matches of all types and leagues for football clubs resident in Akwa Ibom.
Rt. Hon Attat made the pledge Friday, June 25, during the SWAN monthly Congress held at the NUJ Press Center, Information Drive, IBB Avenue, Uyo.
The AKSFA helmsman who attended the congress as a Special Guest alongside the FA Secretary, Elder Joseph Eberefe said the State FA under his watch in the last couple of months has ensured that orderliness and protocols are strictly adhered to in the area of football management and organisation in the State.
Rt Hon Attat maintained that in achieving success in its program, Sports Writers have crucial role to play in that regard even as he called on them to step up thier promotional role in ensuring that the activities of the round leather game are being highlighted.
The FA acting Chairman with football nicknames, ‘Immortal’ and ‘Addidas’ noted that his Association has forged cordial relationship with football club owners in Akwa Ibom and expressed the optimism that such relationship would continue for the growth of football in the State.
He however appealed to club owners to pay affiliation fees to the State FA reiterating that any organized football activities in the State must received the endorsement of the State FA.
The former Councillor and Chairman of ONNA local government Council said football cannot be run by Governments alone, hence, the need for private individuals to key into the vision of owning football clubs for more competitions and commercial purposes.
Rt. Hon Attat praised Akwa United football club for outstanding performance in the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football league which has placed the team above others with four points gap at the summit of the league table.
He mentioned that Akwa United and Dakkada Babes of Eket are representing Akwa Ibom in the AITEO Cup competition for the male and female categories and wished the teams overall success.
The State Chairman of SWAN Mr. Emmanuel AKPAN in his remark said SWAN under his leadership has raised the bar and has over time engaged critical stakeholders in the sports sector to rob minds with members for a better Akwa Ibom.
Mr. Akpan assured that more of such initiative would be undertaken so that sports in Akwa Ibom would gain the needed promotion it deserves.
The Vice President South South, SWAN, Prince Bonny Nyong thanked the State FA Chairman for honoring SWAN by attending the congress.
Prince Nyong assured that SWAN members would continue to play thier roles effectively.
The congress was also graced by the State Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Amos Etuk, Chairman, Advisory committee, SWAN, Elder Justice Udousoro, former chairmen, Mr. Ededem Akpan and Uwem Ekoh, among others.
