Environmental nuisance: AKSEPWMA slams Ambassador Lounge 7-day Ultimatum
In line with the Akwa Ibom State Public Health Laws CAP 103, Vol. 5 of 2000, the Akwa Ibom State Government through the State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA) has issued a 7-day ultimatum to the management of the Ambassador Lounge, Ikono Street, Uyo, to adhere to hygienic standards.
The development, according to the Press Unit of the Agency, was a swift response by Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency to a notice of environmental nuisance caused by the said outfit.
In a notice issued and signed by the Environmental Health Officer of Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency, dated December 21, 2020, and received by the manager of the Ambassador Lounge, Mr. Eteng Eteng, the lounge was accused of constituting environmental and public health nuisance, and ordered to abate within seven (7) days nuisance at his business premises and make provision for the standard waste bin, operational permit, fire extinguisher, medical certificate of fitness for kitchen staff.
The lounge was also ordered to desist from emptying wastewater into public drains, channel same into the existing soakage pit and make provision for an adequate number of staff.AKSEPWMA ultimatum
The health officers observed with dismay the lounge’s poor adherence to hygienic standards, even as an offensive odour overwhelmed the entire premises.
