Akpabio assures on completion of Calabar-Itu Federal Highway project
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio has assured the people of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states that the 2024 national budget will prioritize and address the problem of unstable road infrastructure in the two sister states.
Senator Akpabio gave the assurance over the weekend while speaking with newsmen at the Margaret Ekpo International Airport in Calabar when he arrived in the Cross River capital for the thanksgiving service of Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong of Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State.
Commenting on the deplorable condition of the Calabar-Itu Federal Highway, the difficult experiences of its users, and the resulting economic inconveniences, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State admitted that “both states are affected” but assured the people of both states that the 2024 budget of the federal government will reflect his intentions to the Senate.
The Senate President said, “I want to admit that the deplorable condition of the Calabar-Itu Federal highway, both states are affected, but we will make sure that that would be reflected in the 2024 federal budget” Senator Akpabio stressed.
Senator Akpabio highlighted that if the link road will be fix it will create a positive impact on the livelihoods of Cross Riverians and Akwa Ibomites.
The Senate President who is also the graduate of the University of Calabar, said he came to his house to congratulate Governor Bassey Otu on his victory, the latest of which was the Court of Appeals confirming his election.
He also praised the governor for ruling the state peacefully and said: “We are very proud of him”
“I am also here because of my Senators, the three Senators from Cross River State are very supportive of my leadership in the Senate, especially my younger brother, Distinguished Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, who would be thanking God on Saturday for his child, and family and victory at the polls.”
Commenting on the deplorable condition of the Calabar-Itu Federal Highway, the difficult experiences of its users, and the accompanying economic hardships, the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State admitted that “both states are worried concerns” but ensures that Nigeria’s 2024 budget reflects the government’s intentions.
Senator Akpabio also assured the two sister states that the senate he leads will make a positive impact on the livelihoods of Cross Riverians and Akwa Ibomites.
The Senate President was received by a high-level delegation of the state government led by Deputy Governor Peter Odey, Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambe, APC state chairman, Alphonsus Eba Esq., state executive council members and others.
