Akase interacts with community Pharmacists in Benue
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP 2023 governorship aspirant in Benue State, Mr. Terver Akase Thursday (December 2) interacted with the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN) at its State chapter award ceremony held in Makurdi
Speaking at the event, Mr. Akase who is the immediate past Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, lauded the central role pharmacists play in healthcare service delivery, pointing out that without them as professionals, medical practice will not be successful to cater for the health of citizens.
He stated his desire to collaborate with professionals with a view to setting up medical consumables factory that will attract an inflow of funds into the State if given an opportunity to govern.
The PDP 2023 guber hopeful expressed optimism about the establishment of a Department of Pharmacy at the Benue State University, Makurdi, saying such a department will further boost the potentials of the State and increase manpower training for the health sector.
Mr Akase said if elected as Governor in 2023, he will accord priority to the people’s medical needs by building more primary health centres in various communities, upgrading facilities at the general hospitals in local government areas and acquiring modern equipment for the State University Teaching Hospital.
He decried the infiltration of quacks into various noble professions and urged the ACPN to combat the menace in pharmaceutical practice.
Earlier in a remark, State Chairman of the ACPN, Pharmacist Nonye Ezim-Ochi stated that as a technical group of professionals, they were committed to tackling the proliferation of substandard and counterfeit drugs, stressing that the health of the people is wealth and must not be endangered by the activities of counterfeiters.
The National Chairman of the Association, Pharmacist Adewale Aderemi Oladigbolu delivered a goodwill message virtually at the ceremony, which also featured fundraising for the purchase of a bus to facilitate ACPN’s activities in the State.
Former Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Terwase Orbunde and former Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, Engr Dondo Ahire also spoke at the event.
