Akase Condemns Kidnap of School Children
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP 2023 governorship aspirant in Benue State, Mr Terver Akase has expressed worry over the negative trend of abduction of school children, saying it poses a serious threat to the educational system in the country.
Mr Akase who is the immediate past Chief Press Secretary to the Benue State Governor, stated this Friday, December 3, 2021,
in Abuja, while participating as awards sponsor at this year’s Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ “Press Week and Awards Presentation” organised by Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN headquarters chapel of the Union.
He said the recurring incidents of abducting school children, especially in the Northern part of the country, constitute a severe risk to educational institutions, stressing that if nothing is done to urgently curb the prevailing trend, it would impact negatively on the nation’s economy.
Represented by Mr Tersoo Adagher, the guber hopeful canvassed for a robust security architecture to be put in place to guarantee the safety of school children, acknowledging that education is a right of every child who must also be protected to acquire it in a safe environment.
At the Press Week ceremony, Mr Akase sponsored ten different categories of awards which were presented to deserving journalists for excellent performance in their line of duty. It would be recalled that he instituted the sponsorship of the awards at the FRCN headquarters last October, as a deliberate way of giving back to the organisation that provided him a platform to rise in his career.
While commending the FRCN headquarters chapel of the Union under the leadership of Comrade Sandra Udeike for always setting the pace in promoting ideals and values to uplift and unite the nation, Mr Akase congratulated the award winners and urged them to sustain professional excellence.
In the various categories of awards, Biodun Dare emerged Editor of the year, Tersoo Zamber was awarded Reporter of the Year, Fubara Pepple as News Reader of the Year, Olayemi Daniyan as Commentary Writer of the Year, while Aondohemba Oriin bagged the award of programmes Producer of the Year among others.
The occasion with the theme “Effective Border Security: A Panacea for Safe Schools and Society” was held under the Chairmanship of the Director-General, Department of State Service, Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi, while the Acting Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. Idris Jere was the Keynote Speaker.
