Agriculture Commissioner extolls Governor Udom Emmanuel’s commitment to food sufficiency

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, has extolled the unwavering commitment of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel to the cause of increased food production.
Dr Edet made this known while playing host to National Executive Committee of Nigeria Association of Agricultural Economists (N.A.A.E.), on a Courtesy Visit on Monday, 15th March, 2021 to intimate her of their 20th Annual Conference holding in Uyo, not just as the Honourable Commissioner , but also as an Agricultural Economists.
The Akwa Ibom State Agriculture Commissioner appreciated Governor Udom Emmanuel and highlighted some of his achievements to the Guests According to her, the State Government has made huge investments in the sector, through granting of loans to farmers, distribution of farm inputs, capacity workshops for farmers, which has significantly increased the quantity of food produced in the state, amongst others.
The Dean of/ Commissioners Special Advisers sincerely commended Governor Udom for creating the best conducive environment in Akwa Ibom which facilitate the peaceful hosting of national and local events.
Dr. Edet, who expressed appreciation to the organisation for the choice of the University of Uyo to hold the Annual National Conference, described their visit to the Ministry as a mark of honour.
The Commissioner while assuring the group of the Ministry’s full involvement in the Conference, added that Agricultural Economists in the Ministry, representatives of All Farmers Association, Women in Agriculture and other groups in the State will be in attendance.
Earlier, in his remarks, the President, Nigeria Association of Agricultural Economists, Prof Job Nmadu said that face-to-face meeting with people is important as the organisation was formed primarily to enhance national integration and interaction.
Prof Nmadu, who noted that women do perform creditably well in position of authority, lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for appointing an expert, an Agricultural Economist to head the Ministry of Agriculture.
He noted that Agricultural Economists regularly conduct researches on local and national issues, so that in event of an opportunity to interact with policy makers, they share the outcome, which could lead to the solving of one or more challenges.
The President solicited the support of the ministry, as the association begins the 20th Annual Conference in Uyo, which coincides with the Association’s 40th anniversary. According to him, the Conference will among other issues, address improved yield, empowering poor farmers, risk management in Agriculture, etc .
