A fully loaded petroleum product tanker coming from Minna to Suleja has rammed into a Mosque at Lambata in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State leading to an inferno, with several properties razed.
The Commissioner of Police in the state confirmed the accident in an interview with newsmen in Minna on Monday.
According to Mr Usman, the accident which occurred at about 22:45 hours on Sunday, led to the burning of a car and another vehicle loaded with goods.
In his words, “52 lock shops by the road side and 10 houses were also razed.”
“We have since commenced investigation and warned truck drivers to desist from carrying people in truck as such vehicles are not for passengers,” he said.
The Police Commissioner also said that the police and the fire service were fully on ground to control the situation.
According to residents, particularly Ibrahim Maje, a resident of Lambata, no live was lost in the inferno, but many people sustained injuries while escaping from the scene.
