A’Ibom CP scores Essien Udim Council Chairman high on Security
The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State, Olatoye Dorosinmi, has rated the Essien Udim Council Chairman, Mr. Anthony Luke high on security matters, commending him for prioritizing the security of lives and property of his people by cooperating and supporting the Nigeria Police Force, Essien Udim Division.
The Akwa Ibom Police boss who stated this during a familiarization visit to the Divisional Police Station lauded the Council Chairman for restoring the glory of the Police Force by renovating structures at the Essien Udim Divisional Police Station burnt by hoodlums during the 2021 security crisis in the area.
The CP Dorosinmi further commended Hon Luke for his efforts in restoring and maintaining peace and order in the area by running a “proactive, responsible and responsive government.””
“I want to say that you have really taken the bull by the horns by bringing development back to this place for rebuilding this station. I know the condition it was and the level of destruction the last time I came; everywhere was bushy and overgrown with grasses and I never thought that in a short time we could use this place again. Thank you, Mr. Chairman.”
“The primary duty of government is to ensure the welfare and security of the people and anybody who cannot do that is not worthy to be in government but for you, Mr. Chairman, you have done what the Constitution asks you to do, securing your people. We will continue to support you within the means available,” he remarked.
He called on stakeholders and community leaders in Essien Udim to join hands with the Chairman to make life comfortable for the Police Force for effective policing of their communities.
According to him, the visit was to sensitize the people on violence-free campaigns and elections in 2023, stressing that “we should not allow violence before, during and after elections but we should all embrace peace.”
The Police helmsman, who waved the olive branch to hoodlums and criminals, called on them to surrender their arms and embrace peace or be ready to face the full wrath of the law, adding that the Nigeria Police Force is ready to grant amnesty to criminals who are ready and willing to lay down their arms and embrace peace in the local government. “We will reconcile with those who are ready to reconciliation”
In his welcome remarks, the Chairman, Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mr. Anthony Luke, thanked the Commissioner of Police for the visit and for standing by the people during last year’s security crisis.
“”Today, I would have been a dead man without the support of Governor Udom Emmanuel who stood by us and supported the Police Force to ensure that peace is restored in Essien Udim. I also commend the DPO, Chairman Dore, for deciding to put his life on the line to ensure we have peace in Essien Udim,” he noted.
The Chairman told the Police boss that the police station was renovated by his administration in appreciation for what the Police did for Essien Udim people while assuring that the station would be ready in 30 days for use by the Police.
“I was blackmailed during the crisis. I was called names. I was almost lynched and accused wrongly for what I knew nothing about but the Governor and Nigeria Police Force stood by us and Essien Udim people to ensure that peace and normalcy are restored to Essien Udim,” Mr. Luke noted.
On his part, The Essien Udim Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Chairman Dore expressed gratitude to the Chairman for being supportive and cooperating with the men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force and particularly for restoring the glory of police in the area.
He commended the Chairman especially for providing boreholes, toilets and other basic necessities for the Divisional Police Station and motorcycles to assist police in surveillance in the rural areas within his first 100 days in office as Local Government Chairman.
A minute of silence was observed in honour of the gallant men and officers of the Nigeria Police Force who lost their lives during the crisis for their patriotism and professionalism.
