Lucky Piety sets record as Nigeria’s first female Centurion in NCF/PwC U17 Cricket Girl’s finals
A 14 year-old Lucky Piety, an Ekpoma born player for South-south girls cricket team on Friday made history as first female in West Africa cricket history to score a century (100 runs).
Scoring 100 points in a single cricket match is usually celebrated career moments for both professional and amateur in competitive cricket.
Traditionally, a century player otherwise called centurion, loosen his/her helmet amidst crowd standing ovation to wave back at spectators and fans.
Lucky Piety, made 106 runs off 54 balls as South-South girls defeated South-West by 126 runs.
Also Lucky Piety is said to be Edo state best girls’ wicket keeper, she might be in the molds of cricket superstars like M.S. Dhoni of India, Adam Gilchrist and Kumar Sangakkara.
This feat performed by Piety expectedly won the admiration of Nigeria’s national Female Coach, Onome Oghenekev who has reportedly invited her to join the National Cricket Female team.
It is also the focus of Nigeria Cricket Federation to use this tournament to scout for Boys U19 potentials and future female national team players.
Nigeria will be hosting an African tournament soon therefore faces huge task of selecting quality players like Lucky Piety for grooming with a short period.
Lucy Piety was obviously named man of the match while Joy Anthony was man of the match in the South-South and North-West encounter.
In the second match of the day South-East narrowly gave away a possible win to North-West.
Saturday’s games will have 3 matches, North-Central vs North-west, North-Central vs North-West and South-south vs second place of group A.
