2020 PRESS WEEK: NUJ opens entries for Professional Awards
In the build up to the 2020 Press Week celebrations, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, has opened window for its members and media organizations operating in the state interested in contesting for top honours to submit their entries.
Deadline for submission of entries is slated 31st October, 2020.
The 2020 Press Week celebration, which has as its theme “MEDIA, CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT AND NATION BUILDING IN THE COVID-19 ERA”, is scheduled to hold between 6th-11th December, 2020 in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital.
According to the release issued by the Secretary of the 2020 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Nsikak Okon, no fewer than eleven (11) professional awards are up for grabs in this year’s edition of the weekl-ong celebration.
The awards are categorized as follows: Reporter of the year, Crime /Investigative reporter of the year, Feature Writer of the year, Columnist of the year, Sports Writer of the year, Legislative Reporter of the year, Judiciary Reporter of the Year, Information Officer of the year, Newspaper of the year, Broadcast Station of the year (Radio) and Broadcast Station of the year (TV).
According to the release issued by the Secretary of the 2020 Press Week Planning Committee, Comrade Nsikak Okon, not fewer than eleven (11) professional awards are up for grabs in this year’s edition of the weeklong celebration.
Reeling out the criteria that applicants are expected to abide with to avoid risking disqualification, the release warned that “each participant is allowed ONE entry”, urging applicants to first of all read through the set criteria pertaining to the category they are applying for thoroughly to confirm their eligibility before submitting their application.
“Interested applicants should note the following:
“Columnists/ feature writers must show evidence of consistency by presenting articles published on the column/media between October 2019 and September 2020.
“Information Officers must show evidence of published works in the media.
“Entry must include original and three photocopies of the publication (Print).One typed manuscript and two soft copies in CDs of all broadcast entries (Electronic)”, the release reads in part.
The release further stated that “all entries must have been published or aired not later than September 30, 2020”.
All entries, must be put in sealed envelopes clearly marked at the top right corner as 2020 Award Entry, with the category clearly stated and addressed to the Secretary 2020 PRESS WEEK Planning Committee.
