… As FEYReP promises more life-touching project
The excitement was palpable amongst indigenes as the wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, Tuesday, inaugurated the newly built ultra-modern FEYReP Market in Ikot Akpabio, Nsit Atai Local Government Area for use.
The market constructed under the FEYReP Market Remodeling Project in collaboration with the Lady Emem Ibanga led administration, boast of an abattoir, water system and a well built convenience.
In her remarks at the event, the governor’s wife said the market remodeling programme of FEYReP was initiated to provide a face lift to markets especially in rural communities.
“We came up with this project to address the inhumane conditions our women face while trading in our rural areas. With this brand new market, women will no longer be seen selling in the sun and rain but they now have shades over their heads,” she said.
Dr. Emmanuel noted that the open stalls in the market are to be given free to all traders, stating that no money is required before a space is given to a trader. “No one is required to pay a dime to be given a space here to sell. We have done this free for all,” First Lady Martha said.
The wife of the State Chief Executive commended the executive chairman of the local government for a job well done and also thanked the youths for working harmoniously to ensure the completion of the market.
She specially thanked the Executive Chairman of the Local Government, Lady Emem Ibanga for the partnership and called for more of such partnership from other stakeholders to ensure more is done for the traders.
Earlier, welcoming the governor’s wife to her domain, the Executive Chairman of Nsit Atai, Lady Emem Ibanga, said she was happy to have the state first lady inaugurate the market, saying it shows her love for the women of the area.
While thanking her for the many social investment programmes in the state, she noted that Dr. Emmanuel’s life-changing initiatives have been enormously felt by the local government area in all facets.
Similarly, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Trade and Market Matters, Mr. Idorenyin Raphael in company with other market leaders, paid special appreciation to the governor’s wife for looking in the direction of traders by remodeling and building new markets in the state, saying it has never been this good with traders.
Also, in their separate goodwill messages, the House Member representing Nsit Atai State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Mark Esset, Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Otuekong Raphael Bassey, PDP state Deputy Chairman, Mr. Lawrence Udosen and the Paramount Ruler of Nsit Atai, His Royal Majesty, Prophet Peter Okon Effiong, all registered their profound thanks to the Governor and wife for embarking on human-angle projects for the benefit of the citizenry.
They promised their continued loyalty and support to the administration till 2023.
