The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Udom Emmanuel has expressed readiness to work and partner with ECOWAS Commission for the realization of Post-2020 Vision for the benefit of the region.
Governor Emmanuel made the pledge while declaring open the National Consultative Workshop on the ECOWAS Post-2020 Vision holding in Uyo the capital of Akwa Ibom State.
The governor who was represented by the State Deputy Governor, Mr Moses Ekpo commended the organisers for considering the state to host the workshop noting that “Akwa Ibom State is Nigeria’s Best kept secret” with great and hosptal people, fantastic weather condition, delicious and nationally acclaimed range of cuisines.
He added that the state is one of the safest state to live and invest in Nigeria according to the testimonies of security professionals and other stakeholders.
“I understand that this workshop is the second in the series that is expected to hold in all the six geo-political zones of the country.
Today’s event holding in our state represents the South South geo-political zone and I wish to thank you for choosing to come to Uyo.
He acknowledged the achievement of ECOWAS since her establishment in 1975 by defining, distilling and expanding the visions of the Founding Fathers despites the challenges they may have encountered.
He said, ” One of the thematic issues scheduled for discussion during this workshop is the expansion and improvement of infrastructural facilities.
“This is an area that is very dear to the heart of my administration. We came in 2015 with a Five Point Agenda which in our Second Term has been collapsed and expanded into a 8-point Completion Agenda.
“The key planks of the agenda is infrastructural consolidation and expansion”
In his remarks the Head, ECOWAS National Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr J. U. Oyi, noted that the objective of the workshop is to collectively assess the ECOWAS vision 2020 and to ensure that the ECOWAS Post-2020 vision reflects the Nigeria’s national interest as well as the regional aspiration.
While also noting that the goal of the workshop is to artivukate the views of the various stakeholders on the impact of ECOWAS vision 2020, as well as the expectations of the people of Nigeria, with regards to the formulations of the ECOWAS Vision 2050 document.
He urged the participants to take active part in the workshop with the aim of making contributions that will be of immense benefit of Nigeria and ECOWAS region in general.
