A Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Itu, Itu Judicial Division, will on Wednesday, July 1, 2020 resume hearing on a murder case against one Mr. Utibe Idongesit John.
Also charged to court is the father of the suspect and Village Head of Mbribit Itam, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Idongesit John who is standing trial for aiding and abetting crime.
Utibe John, the murder suspect, was said to have been assisted by his father to obtain a machete to carry out the dastard act on March 16, 2020 at the palace of the detained monarch.
It was further gathered from the police source that the deceased, one Mr. Bokime Boniface had reportedly gone to the palace of the village head to lodge a complaint with the village head whom he accused of having a running battle with his father, Mr. Boniface Akpan.
Allegedly angered by the said complaints from the deceased, the village head reportedly reached out for a machete and gave it to his son (now detained) to chase away the complainant out of his compound.
“Apparently driven by the insult on his father, the suspect used the machete given by the father on his victim, Bokime Boniface, dealing several machete cuts on his head and other parts of the body which eventually led to his death a few hours later,” said a source who witnessed the incident.
The presiding magistrate, Mrs. Emem Isong, after the mentioning the matter, adjourned the case to July 1, 2020 for hearing.
Meanwhile, the suspects in the case, Utibe Idongesit John (son), Idongesit John (father) have been ordered to be remanded at the police custody.
