Ikot Ekpene Transition Chairman emphasizes importance of capacity building
Borne out of the need to get members of his Transition Committee fully abreast with the workings of local government administration, a two day capacity building retreat on the theme; “Akwa Ibom State Local Government (Administration) Law and local government Public Service” sponsored by the Transition Chairman of Ikot Ekpene, Sir. John Cleton Etim for Members of the Transition committee has been rounded off at Gladmann Hotel, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
Flagging off the capacity building workshop, Sir.Etim explained that the retreat was organized inline with his avowed commitment to sharpening the skills of his team members towards enhancing efficient service delivery at the grassroot level.
He promised to engage the members on more of such training.
Some of the members of the Transition committee who spoke after the training, commended the Chairman for organizing the capacity training, noting that knowledge garnered at the 2day capacity training would go along way in shaping their thought process, thus opening their frontiers of knowledge on local government administration, while also enhancing effective service delivery.
The committee transition secretary, Barr. Goodwill Ituen who gave a vote of thanks at the end of the training assured that the knowledge gained would be put to use for the purpose of ensuring a smooth running of the local government system, adding that the lecture papers would serve as reference materials.
Delivering a lecture on the theme; “ Local Government Administration Law and the Local Government Public Service” a retired Head of Local Government Service, Obong Killian Thompson, described the local government system as an indispensable tier of government, and tasked the local government administrators on what is expected of them as those whose responsibility it is to bring governance nearer to the people at the grassroot level.
In attendance were, the Chairman Hon. John Cleton Etim, the Vice-Chairman, Hon Unyime Thomas, Council Secretary Barr. Godwil Ituen and all the 12 Supervisors.
