Re-run Elections: INEC distributes sensitive materials in Cross River
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken steps to ensure the smooth conduct of the upcoming re-run elections in Cross River State. In preparation for the elections, INEC has distributed sensitive materials to the four local government areas where the re-run is scheduled to take place.
The state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Gabriel O. Yomere, addressed election stakeholders during the distribution of the materials.
The stakeholders included members of the Inter Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and representatives from the contesting political parties.
In his address, Prof. Yomere emphasized that the decision to engage only INEC staff from Cross River State for the re-run elections was made to ensure accountability.
He pointed out that the elections will be held in 34 polling units, and by using only their own staff, the Commission can hold them responsible for any wrongdoing.
This move by INEC signifies their commitment to promoting transparency and fairness in the electoral process. It also serves as a deterrent to any staff members who may be tempted to engage in illegal activities during the elections.
By solely relying on their own staff, INEC is able to exercise greater control over the process and ensure that everything is conducted in accordance with the law.
The distribution of sensitive materials is an important step in the lead-up to the elections. These materials include ballot papers, result sheets, and other important documents that are crucial to the smooth running of the electoral process.
By distributing these materials well in advance, INEC is able to ensure that everything is in place for a seamless voting experience on election day.
To ensure a smooth Re-Run elections INEC has attached each BVAS machines with a High-Tech Power-Bank.
Equally, the Police authority in the state has assured adequate security during and after the Re-Run election.
His words, he said, “We have decided to engage our staff in Saturday Re-Run in Cross River due to limited numbers of polling Units, which is 34 Pollin Units spread across the 4-local government areas where the election will take place”
“We will also able to hold any of our staff for any wrong doing, I wish to assure everyone that INEC fully ready for the Re-Run” the REC assured.
