Ex-Commissioner Advocates Use of Ecumenical Center for Inauguration of Governors
A National Trustee of the Methodist Church, Sir Sunday Udo Akpan has advocated for the inauguration of Akwa Ibom Governors-elect at the International Worship Center, instead of an open field.
Speaking after the inauguration of the Ecumenical Center, Sir Akpan, a Night of John Wesley, hinted that the inauguration of the State Chief Executives at the Center will serve as a memorial to magnify God’s name, whom Akwa Ibom is named after.
The former Finance Commissioner and President of IMFI ICT Academy explained that the enthronement of the State’s number one citizen at what he described as a universal worship center, will go a long way to commemorate the milestone achievement of our people’s journey to destiny, anchored on the centrality of the God factor.
The Octogenarians recalled that their founding fathers, who in their wisdom, in 1987 had named Akwa Ibom after God, were Symbolically referencing the supremacy of the most high God, through whose might the State was created.
“”In doing so, I believe the Governors will ultimately realize that they occupy this office in trust for God, and not merely in trust for their political platforms” he noted.
The political leader of Ikono also recalled God’s intervention in the abrogation of the obnoxious On-shore/Off-shore Oil Dichotomy Bill under Chief Olusegun Obasanjo-led administration, stressing that it took the collective prayers of Akwa Ibom people at a Solemn Assembly, to overturn the decision of Federal Government against oil producing States.
He added that the huge allocations accrued to the State, from the Federal Derivative Revenue, came as a breakthrough from the prayers of the Church during the maiden Solemn Assembly.
He frowned at the attitude of some Akwa Ibom people who tend to celebrate others to the detriment of their own, adding that the International Worship Center remains the symbol of the God factor in our polity.
