Senate 2023: I remain LP valid Candidate for Cross River Senatorial District – Daniel Asuquo assures supporters
Honourable Ntufam Daniel Asuquo, a three time House of Representatives member, representing Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency says he is still the valid candidate for the Southern Senatorial seat in the 2023 election under the platform of the Labour Party, LP despite the outcome of the Federal High Court ruling that sacks him from the race.
Hon. Asuquo gave this assurance on Thursday at the Ernest Etim Bassey Press Center, Calabar during a press briefing to clear the air on the news going around that the Federal High Court has sacked him from contesting the 2023 senatorial election.
His words, “I remain the valid candidate for the Labour Party in 2023 Cross River Southern Senatorial seat as we pass through the due process during our primaries. We have appealed for the ruling of the Federal High court and in the end, we shall return victorious” Hon.
“All the effort by the ruling party to terminate my candidature at the Upper chamber election is due to my popularity in our constituency. My track record is there for everyone to see. I Ntufam Daniel Asuquo use these briefings to make it clear that, since I was elected to represent my people at the Lower Chamber, I have never bought even a house in Abuja as others. All my focus is on the people I represent. The records are there to verify” the Lawmaker insists.
In his reaction, the Cross River State chairman of the Labour Party, LP, Ambassador Ogar Osim who was accompanied by other party faithful decried the judgement of the High Court against the Labour Party candidate, insisted that the House of Representatives member was duly and validly nominated during primaries.
His words, “The party had already appealed for the ruling of the Federal High Court, Abuja. We followed the law, we did our primaries with the extent law guiding us in the process” The chairman said.
It has been recalled that last week, the Federal High court sitting in Abuja sacked the lawmaker from contesting the southern senatorial seat following a suit filed by another candidate from the platform of All Progressive Congress, APC and the APC, challenging the non-valid nomination of the Lawmaker during primaries.
