Ukana Polytechnic: Akwa Ibom council boss backs visitation panel to reposition institution
The Chairman Essien Udim Local Government Council, Mr Anthony Luke has assured federal government and the management of Ukana Polytechnic of the Council’s cooporation and support for the success of the institution in the area.
The Chairman gave the assurrance when he played host to the Federal Government Visitation Panel to Ukana Polytechnic led by the former Executive Secretary of National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor A. T. Abdullahi who paid him courtesy visit at the council secretariat, Afaha Ikot Ebak, recenty.
While thanking the Panel and the management of the institution for carrying the council along in the operations of Ukana Polytechnic, the Chairman restated that the Council’s committed to ensuring a conducive learning environment for academic activities to thrive in the school which, according to him, is the only federal government present in the area.

The Council boss also commended the Rector of the institution, Dr Uduak S. Ukekpe for his effective management of the resources accrued to the institution which is evident in the massive infrastructural development in the polytechnic and acquisition of equipment for the take off of some Engineering Studies.
He added that he was impressed with the level of transformation he saw during his last visit to the polytechnic and described the Rector as a seasoned and prudent administrator.

Luke who assured the visitors of their safety and security throughout their stay in the area also canvassed for more federal establishments in the area.
“Essien Udim is peaceful and we will ensure that we provide adequate security of lives and property in the institution. We cannot afford to joke with it because that’s the only federal institution in the area. We want our visitors to extend our appreciation to Mr President, Muhammadu Buhari for supporting Ukana Polytechnic while we ask for more federal government establishments in Essien Udim,” Luke noted.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Federal Government Visitation Panel to Ukana Polytechnic, Professor A. T. Abdullahi commended the Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke for granting audience to the panel despite his busy schedule and thanked him for cooperation with the management of the Polytechnic in the area.
Prof Abdullahi said the visit was necessary to assess the performance of the polytechnic since her establishment in 2014, the challenges and areas of needs with a view to repositioning it.
The for former Rector of Kaduna Polytechnic solicited the continuous cooperation of the council with the management of the institution for smooth operations of Academic activities.
He also sympathized with the council for the recent security crisis in the area which led to the displacement of some indigenes of the area and called on those behind the unfortunate incidents to embrace peace for Nigeria to succeed.
Speaking, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, Dr Uduak S. Ukekpe who described the visitation panel as a combuination of intellectuals and experts expressed optimism that a better future beacons for the institution at the end of the visit.
He also thanked the Council Chairman, Mr Anthony Luke for his support so far, stressing that with the continuous cooperation of the council, a lot more will be achieved in the Polytechnic for the benefit of the people.
