As battle for who becomes the next Governor of Akwa Ibom State gathers momentum with series of meetings, indoor consultantations and campaigns by groups for their candidates, a socio-political organization in the state, Eastern Ibibio People Association, a conglomerate of four Local Government Areas, on Tuesday consulted Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio, the highest Ibibio decision Making body seeking for their support and backing ahead of the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Akwa Ibom State.

The group which is drawn from the Eastern part of the state comprises of Itu, Ibiono Ibom, Ikono and Ini Local Government Area’s respectively with a formidable leadership of past political leaders in each of Local Government Area’s whose aim is based on the agitation for a transparent and opened zoning system of governorship position to Itu/Ibiono Federal Constituency.
The group who noted with dismay the political and developmental marginalization meted on the area since the advent of democracy in 1998 describing it as barbaric, demonic and obnoxious to the political, social, economic and cultural history of the Eastern Ibibio people.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Obong Barr. Eteyen Archibong who led executive members of the association intimated the leadership of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio that the people of the four local government areas that constituted the association have been neglected and deprived of development projects by successive regimes in the state.

He regretted that the completion agenda of the Udom Emmanuel led government has excluded the people of Ibiono Ibom, Ikono, Itu and Ini Local Government Area’s in the scheme of governace in the state which is directly or indirectly an abuse cum a slap to the good people of the areas.
He bemoaned the level of attacks on the people of the areas by invaders from Abia and Cross River states.
“As we speak, the people of Ini, and Itu local government areas are counting losses of live and properties on a daily basis due to continuous attacks by the people of Abia to Nkari people in Ini and Cross River State to the people of Itu arising from the popular fight between Ikot Offiong and Oku Iboku people yet, the government pays deaf ears to their cries and yearnings.
“We collect all the bullets as boundary Local Government Areas, but, when the time to share comes, nobody remembers us. That’s the plight of the Eastern Ibibio people,” he stated.
Obong Eteyen Archibong however noted that the act of cross deprivation and negligence meted on them has politically deduce their stance, voice, welfare cum wellbeing as a people while soliciting for support of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio as one of the foremost decision makers who can influence their agitation to the achievable.
“We have come to you, to appeal, to seek your support. We are not violent, we are not fighting. We are simply saying that our brothers in Uyo and Etinan federal constituencies having tasted the office before, should allow the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency the opportunity to also have a taste of power”.
He noted that Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio has over the years evolved into a strong, formidable and influential pressure group in the state and lauded the current leadership of the organisation led by Akparawa Obong Patrick for sustaining the legacies of its predecessors for some decades since the establishment of the organization.
Obong Eteyen however commended the efforts of the present administration to restore, maintain, sustain and retain peace and security in the state most particularly for investment and progress to thrive effectively and efficiently.
Responding, Akparawa Obong Patrick Udofia, the 10th President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio commended members of the Eastern Ibibio Peoples Association for their discipline and peaceful manner with which they conducting their advocacy, describing them as men and women of proven integrity.
Obong Udofia stated that Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio being a non partisan organization which is internationally recognized across the globe have registered their plights and agitations assuring to give them a positive feedback immediately after a cabinet meeting as stipulated in the constitution of the organization.
The Eastern Ibibio delegation includes prominent sons & daughters of the Area.
