The lingering disaster and conflict situations in Nigeria have become source of concern to government and Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora.
But there are strong indications that there is a ray of hope and light at the end of the tunnel.
Meanwhile, an expert in the field of disaster and conflict management, Dr Bassey Ita Etim-Ikang says he has a lasting solution, bothering on mitigation, proactive and preventive measures, community safety and security.
These are contained in his new book entitled “Planner’s Perspective on Disaster and Conflict: Issues of Forced Displacement of Persons Management in Nigeria”
The book is billed for launching on 20th April, 2021 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Conference Hall(Rotunda)Ahmadu Bello Way, Eagle Square, Abuja.
Time: 12.Noon.
Speaking at the pre-launching interview with newsmen in Abuja, Dr. Etim-Ikang described the book as a master-piece that provides narrative for contemporary disaster and conflict issues whose combined rewards have been massive creation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) and emerging legacy of environmental disorder.
According to him, the book draws inspiration from the complexities of multi-dimensional insecurity, ethnic violence, wars, insurgency and communal clashes, and emerged as a result of extensive research, based on empirical records, consultations with relevant stakeholders, based on the authors’ physical participation on humanitarian activities, conferences seminars, workshops and meetings organized locally and internationally.
He therefore invites all especially to public functionaries, public office holders, captains of industry and indeed Nigerians to be part of the book launch which will also be beamed live in Zoom Cloud Meeting in line with COVID-19 protocol.
“I have the singular honour to write and express my utmost appreciation of your most and sincere contribution in governance as part of this Administration efforts toward lifting Nigeria out of pervasive insecurity and violence over the years in order to address the greater needs of humanity across the country. As a way of encouraging this great stride towards a secured, peaceful and harmonious co-existence of all Nigerians, you are kindly invited to a Book presentation titled: “A Planner’s Perspective on Disaster and Conflict: Issues of Forced Displacement of Persons Management in Nigeria,” he observed ahead of the book launch in Abuja.
He further maintained that peace and security must be viewed by all as everybody business expressing the hope that Nigerians have much to learn from his book during and after the public presentation next week.
The author also disclosed that he got inspiration for the book through his personal experiences as well as those he had gathered over years while working in the refugees commission revealing that he had also played a crucial role when the government formulated the National policy on Internally displaced person.
The book launch is apt, coming at a time Nigeria is embroidered in series of conflicts and humanitarian situations occasioned by activities of Boko Haram, IPOB, Bandits, militants, Herdsmen.
Bassey Ita Etim-Ikang hold Doctorates Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. The book came as a result of his hard work and experience as an author and as professional, a challenge for all to see peace and security as everybody’s business.
He also played key role in the formulatiion of National Policy on Internally Displaced Persons.
Personalities to grace the historic event would includee: Alhaji Kasim Ibrahim–Imam, who is expected to serve as Chairman on the occasion; Distinguished Sen.(Dr).George Akume, Hon. Minister,e Federal Ministry of Special Duties and Inter-Governmental Affairs, will be the Chief Host of the book launch.
The Co-Host is Head of the Civil Service, Dr.Folashade Yemi- Esan; the Special Guest of Honor is Distinguished Sen.Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President. The Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Simon Lalong will be the Co-presenter.
