2024 LG Elections in Akwa Ibom: More Endorsement, Adoption Trail Dr. Anthony Luke’s Second Term Ambition
As the 2024 Local Government Elections gather momentum in Akwa Ibom State, more endorsement of the second term bid of the Transition Chairman of Essien Udim LGA, Dr. Anthony Luke popularly known as Aluko.
The latest of such endorsement came from Mbońg Ekpuk under the umbrella of the Ekpuk (Family) Heads Association, Essien Udim chapter, who unanimously adopted Dr. Luke as their sole candidate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections in October 2024.
The association comprises heads of families from all the 136 villages in Essien Udim LGA.
The endorsement was part of the resolutions reached at the end of an extraordinary meeting of the association held at the Multi-purpose Traditional Rulers Council Complex, Afaha Ikot Ebak on Wednesday, 17th July 2024.
Speaking, Chief Maurice Peter Essien (JP), Chapter Chairman, EKPUK (Family) Heads Association, Essien Udim, commended the chairman for building a befitting secretariat for the Traditional Rulers in Essien Udim and also providing adequate security of lives and property in Essien Udim, noting that before Dr. Anthony Luke assumed office as the Local Government Chairman in December 2020, Essien Udim was a safe haven for criminals and criminal activities.
He described Dr. Anthony Luke as a courageous, dogged, proactive, compassionate and selfless leader who risked his life to ensure Essien Udim is free of hoodlums and restored peace and tranquility in the area.
Chief Essien recalled how the chairman, Dr. Anthony Luke, fought against insecurity and flushed out hoodlums who had infiltrated some communities in the area many years ago and had their camp in Atan Ikot Akpan Village where they lived and freely molested women, attacked security operatives and burnt their station in Essien Udim stressing that it took the courage of Dr. Anthony Luke’s administration to dismantle the criminal camp and flush them out of Essien Udim.
While noting that Essien Udim is peaceful and crime-free today because of Dr. Luke’s effort, Chief Essien charged politicians in the area not to sacrifice the visionary and focused leadership of Dr. Anthony Luke on the altar of political sentiments and self-aggrandizement but to support him to continue to consolidate on his developmental strides.
The elders expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for appointing Dr. Anthony Luke as the Transition Chairman of Essien Udim, describing the governor as a visionary and a man led by God. They added that the appointment was a step in the right direction for Essien Udim and solicited the governor’s support for the chairman to return for a second term for the good of Essien Udim.
The group stated that they are the direct beneficiaries of Dr. Anthony Luke’s administration as rural dwellers and offered prayers for the success of his second term ambition for more dividends of democracy in Essien Udim.
Mbon Ekpuk stressed that the scorecard of Dr. Anthony Luke in office as Executive and Transition Chairman is a testament to his capacity as a performing chairman and promised to mobilize grassroots support for the Chairman’s second term bid.
Responding, the Chairman of Essien Udim, Dr. Anthony Luke, who was represented by the Supervisor for Education and Dean of Supervisors, Hon. Peter Isobara, thanked the Family Heads for their solidarity and acknowledged their contributions to the success of his administration. The Chairman solicited their unalloyed support for his second term bid and promised to consolidate on the gains he has achieved in his first term when he is re-elected as the executive chairman for a second term.
Meanwhile, an assembly of Essien Udim youths comprising – Essien Udim Youth Caucus, PDP Youths Leaders, PDP Ward Youths Leaders, Clan Youths Leaders, Christians Youth Leaders had also endorsed Dr. Anthony Luke’s second term ambition and also adopted him as their sole candidate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections, promising to mobilize massive grassroots support for the success of Dr. Luke’s second term bid
