In an uncommon demonstration of solidarity and loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Essien Udim Continuity Movement, a Support Group for Dr. Anthony Luke’s second term ambition, has congratulated the Party’s preferred choice for the October 5th Chairmanship election, Engr Eno Patrick.
The declaration was made during a strategic meeting of the team recently at Bonotel Hotels and Resort, Ikot Ekpene.
Addressing the teeming supporters of Dr. Anthony Luke, the leader of the group, Hon Bassey Etteyit, who is the immediate past Councillor of Ekpenyong Ward II poured encomiums on their principal, Dr. Anthony Luke, Transition Chairman of Essien Udim, for demonstrating a high level of maturity and loyalty to the party by accepting the decision of the stakeholders to drop his second-term ambition and pledging his support to the preferred candidate for the forthcoming Local Government Chairmanship Election.
The team described Dr. Luke as a honest, faithful and loyal party-man in Essien Udim and called for the party to treasure and protect him for the growth of the party.
The group also lauded the State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for his steadfast love for the people of Essien Udim and his support for Dr. Anthony Luke-led Transition Committee.
They acknowledged Dr. Anthony Luke’s contributions to the growth and development of the party since 1999, asserting that he has always sacrificed for the party’s successes in every election since its establishment and has remained one of its pillars in the Local Government.
The group noted that their decision to support Dr. Luke for a second term was due to his unprecedented and stellar performance in office as Executive and Transition Chairman. His achievements include paying bursaries to Essien Udim students in tertiary institutions, purchasing six vehicles for the council, initiating, constructing and completing the multi-purpose Traditional Rulers Council Complex, reconstructing/remodeling the Divisional Police Headquarters and maintaining peace and security in the area.
In his words, “Sir, once again, you have proven your worth as a very loyal and faithful party man in Essien Udim who has always stood by the Party in all seasons.
“We are always proud of you and chose to support you because of your political sagacity, pedigree, capacity and antecedent in politics. You have maintained a clean-sheet without baggage in politics and public service.
“Though you could not return as Executive Chairman of our dear Local Government but as loyal party men, we have accepted the Stakeholders’ decision to give another Essien Udim son a chance to fly the party’s flag in the upcoming elections and subsequently emerge as Executive Chairman of our Local Government when elected on October 5th, 2024.
“As a visionary politician, we believe in your political direction and assure you of our unflinching support at all times. We thank you for always carrying all of us along in the scheme of things.”
He charged members of the team to keep faith with the party by remaining resolute in their support of all candidates at all levels who will emerge at the party’s primaries and work for their success in the Local Government Elections.
