2023: Umo Eno’ll Promote academic excellence through scholarships – Chris Abasieyo
The spokesperson of the Umo Eno Campaign Organisation, Prince Chris Abasieyo, has said that the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Umo Eno, will put a premium on awards of scholarships to deserving students to encourage sterling academic performances among students in the state if he becomes governor in 2023.
Prince Abasieyo, who was recently appointed Honorary Special Adviser to Governor Udom Emannuel on public relations and information management, stated this, Wednesday, August 24, 2022, when he appeared as guest on Peace Voice, a Maintain Peace Movement (MPM) sponsored programme on Inspiration 105.9 FM, in Uyo.
While fielding questions from host of the programme, Mr. Ekomobong Peter, Prince Abasieyo disclosed that Pastor Eno will pay more attention to offering of scholarships than giving bursaries, which he described as mere pocket money, to students.
Prince Abasieyo who also praised Governor Udom Emmanuel for the recent Initiative to award scholarships to 500 students, said “I have always detested the culture of bursaries as what I will call tokens to get students to get endeared to a person in government. It is not the best style. It should be geared at specially gifted persons so that they can have opportunity they wouldn’t ordinarily have were they to be left for their biological families. Scholarship should be the key thing.
“Bursary does nothing to any student because they see it as pocket money but scholarship will encourage people. Bursary is for everybody. Scholarship means that you have to maintain the point which has helped you to benefit or increase from there, he noted.
Abasieyo, who is a former Commissioner for Information in the state, warned against the dangers of spreading false news on social media, urging people to compare notes of what is on social media and what is on ground before consuming anything they see on the internet.
He said that Pastor Eno’s present mudslinging on social media will only make room for a bigger celebration when he wins as Governor in the state in 2023.
“I am a fisherman turned communicator. So, when our people go to the sea and suffer boat mishaps and wreckages, if it takes two days to have them found, we will celebrate. There are situations where people get lost in the sea and it takes months to have them found. When they come back, the celebration of the months, will be heavier than that of the days.
“What is happening now is that at the end of the day, the celebration will be overwhelming that no voice will rise against Pastor Umo Eno ever again,” Prince Abasieyo stated.
