2023: Rights Group set agenda for Governor Emmanuel’s successor
As Akwa Ibomites continue the search for Governor Udom Emmanuel successor in 2023, human rights group under the auspices of Akwa Ibom Human Rights Coalition has set agenda for the next occupant of Hilltop Mansion.
Speaking to morenews.ng in Uyo, the Chairman, Akwa Ibom Human Right Coalition, Dr. Hilkiah Eliathah who gave a pass mark to Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration canvassed support to the governor’s completion agenda for the continuous prosperity of Akwa Ibom.
The Chairman commended the governor for his industrialization drive and the establishment of Ibom Air which according to him is the “pride of Akwa Ibom State”
He urged Akwa Ibom people and governor Emmanuel to support a successor who will be able to sustain the lofty legacies of his administration in the aviation sector peace.
While charging Governor Emmanuel not to succumb to pressure in choosing his successor, the right group insisted that the next governor must have the capacity and credibility to govern Akwa Ibom people.
He noted that governor Emmanuel has set a standard in governance in the state and therefore Akwa Ibom cannot afford to have a “mediocre to take over from him in 2023”.
“Governor Emmanuel’s successor must be someone who will be able to sustain the industrialisation drive and the peace Akwa Ibom people are currently enjoying.
“He must be someone who has antecedent and pedigree to manage human beings and resources. He must be someone who has interest in human capacity development and not someone who is coming to through money around while our youths continue to be jobless.
“He must be an entrepreneur, a developer, a prudent manager of both human and resources. He must not be a career politician who has nothing to show for,” the Chairman stressed.
Also speaking, another member of the group, Dr. Emmanuel Akpan commended governor Emmanuel for investing in education through employment, training and retraining of teachers, prompt payment of salaries and construction of new classroom blocks.
The secretary of the group, Hon. John Ekanem called on Akwa Ibom People to support Governor Emmanuel to produce a successor who will take the state to another height while stressing that the governor has repositioned the state.
