As the nation Nigeria prepares to elect a new crop of leaders come 2023, the Arch-Bishop of Calabar Archdiocese, Arch- Bishop Chimezie Nwankpa has called on Nigerians to vote in men of class and proven integrity.
Bishop Nwankpa who stated this during a chat with journalists in Uyo cautioned Christians against the antics of desperate politicians who are prepared to bribe their way to power but charged them to vote wisely.
Speaking on the quality of leaders expected to tackle the teething problems confronting the nation, the cleric submitted that Nigerians expect a servant leader who will rule with the fear of God and not selfish leaders with little or nothing to turn around the fortunes in the country.
He called on the National Assembly members to redirect Nigerians on the right path by doing all within it powers to provide the country with a better electoral law ahead of the 2023 polls.
He applauded the leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for the role they’ve played so far in stabilizing Nigeria’s democracy but charged them to do more by choosing to remain apolitical in their efforts to reshape the nation’s politics.
Arch-Bishop Chimezie Nwankpa who until recently, was in charge of the Uyo Archdiocese of the Methodist Church, is however optimistic that the 2023 general elections will be peaceful and conducted amicably to the glory of God.
He, therefore, called on Nigerians to remain steadfast in seeking the face of God for the right Leaders, while expressing hope that the nation’s economy, ravaged by negative impacts of COVID-19, will improve for the better, come 2022.
