2023 election a Referendum for the survival of Cross River State – SDP Guber Candidate
Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate in Cross River, Mr Effiom Okokon said the 2023 governorship election is a referendum for the survival of the state.
Okokon asserted this while answering questions with the pressmen in Calabar on what made his decision to contest the position of the executive governor of the state.
He said, “I am very ready, when we started we were not in a known party, but as you can see our campaign is still ongoing and we are sure we are going to win this election because the people are tired of the old system, they are tired of the old parties.
They said this is an unknown party, I am not afraid because that is the same thing they said about the Labour Party, now everybody is running in to identify with the LP””
“”My priority would be to improve the living standard of our people, improve our educational standards which is the bedrock of any growing society, create a robust state economy, embark on robust agricultural produce, and rebuild our decayed infrastructure.
“”My message to the Cross River electorate is simple, the electorate should come out and vote for us massively as we are the capable hands to move the state away from the current economic crunch which we find ourselves today, to crown it, this election is on a referendum for the survival of our state””
On youth empowerment,
“”Mr Effiom said, “I am a young person so you know that youths will form part of my government. We are to ensure that they move away from being idle, and have a level playing ground to thrive.
We will ensure they are not oppressed by the security agencies.
We will ensure they haassessedess to education, we will also ensure that they have funding so that those who want to go into agriculture can move into that sector.
We will ensure tourism sector thrives so that those who want to do anything in the tourism sector can do it.
The reason for insecurity in our state is that young people are not employed. We don’t want a government that comes into the state and empowers the cultists because that is what we are seeing in our state now.
The proliferation of cult groups is worrisome.
We want a state that would be free of cultism so that we have the youths that would be doing things that would be meaningful which will in turn bring development to our state” Effiom stressed.
