2023 Census: NPC, NOA Sensitize Calabar residents on active participation
The National Population Commission, NPC in partnership with the National Orientation Agency, NOA has organised a one-day sensitization Roadshow/Publicity Campaign to enlighten the general public on the need to actively participate in the 2023 National Population/Housing Census.
The roadshow began at the State Headquarters of the National Population Commission, Moor Road, Calabar en route through Marian Road to Effi Ette Junction and ended at the NPC office.
The event witnessed a large turnout of participants which include participants from the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Youth Corps members and other members of the public.
Addressing journalists during the event, the state Commissioner, National Population Commission, NPC, Navy Captain Charles Ogwu (Rtd) stated that the main objective of the Roadshow is to show the general public the vision of the commission and to sensitize the public and create awareness to ensure massive participation in 2023 National Population and Housing Census in the state.
His words, “The main objective of this Roadshow is to show the public the vision of the NPC having started a collaboration effort with NOA and this Roadshow is pure advocacy and publicity purpose. I want to say for the past 3-weeks the Population Commission has hosted a portal for the E-Recruitment exercise for the ad-hoc staff that will be used during the 2023 Census project across the state.
“”Before now we had just 4000 persons but as of the Press briefing I had, this morning we have about 7000 application that is successful in Cross River State.
“”The awareness is getting on now and we hope that before the portal closes on the 28th of December we will have had a sufficient number that will form the functioning of the 2023 census across the state
“”The cardinal message is advocacy and publicity has been made for the 2023 Population and Housing Census so that everybody is aware that Nigerians will be counted come 2023.
“”We have started the advocacy and will go on with this tempo and replicate this in all 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
This is the first-ever digital Census Nigeria want to conduct and the Hitech we have applied in preparation for the Census has shown that even if there is a high level of insecurity everybody will be counted and so insecurity or not Nigerians will be counted.
“”Therefore, I want to seize this chance to advise everyone to present themselves to be counted as this is a national project to enable the government to know the actual number of its citizens,” the commissioner stressed.
