2023: A’Ibom Finance Commissioner meets Igbo group, canvasses support for Pastor Umo Eno
In a build up to the Governorship and State House of Assembly elections, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Linus Nkan has consulted Igbo people residence in Akwa Ibom under the umbrella of Igbo Brethren Association to canvass support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno.
Represented by the PDP Uyo Ward I Co-ordinator, Hon.Nseabasi Ndor during the consultation on Monday, 6th February, 2023, thanked the group for accepting them in their midst and pleaded with the body to support Pastor Umo Eno and other PDP candidates in this Saturday’s elections.
In his words, the PDP Uyo Ward Leader,Hon.Ndor maintained that the presidential elections had come and gone, adding that they supported the LP candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
“We are from this community, we came here to consult you.We came to beg you to vote our brother. That is why we have came to ask you to intercede and pray for us so that the election will be free and fair without any election violence,” he stated.
Responding on behalf of the group, Mr. Lawrence Ezike, who is one of the Patrons of the organization said that Igbo people do not have any governorship candidate and assured them that Pastor Umo Eno is their man.
His words, “From the time of Akpabio, we have been supporting PDP and Akwa Ibom State is a PDP state. Be rest assured we will not disappoint you.”
In his remarks, the President of the group, Mr. Milla Iheanacho thanked them for coming to consult them, adding that they were very happy to see them in their midst.
He however, assured them of his members’ readiness to vote Pastor Umo Eno as governor and other PDP candidates for the State Assembly come Saturday this week.
Present at the visit were Hon. Nseabasi Ndor, PDP Uyo Ward 1 Co-ordinator; Mr. Akan Okon, Former Ward 1 Chairman; Hon. Idongesit Samuel, Former Supervisor Uyo LGA; Mr. Samuel E. Samuel, PDP Unit 21 Coordinator; Mr. Ita Ekong Uboh, Mr. Leo Okokon, Mr. Nsisong Godwin, Mr. Joseph Abia and Lady Angela Dominic.
It would however, be recalled that barely few days after the February 25 elections, there were indications that the outcome of the elections in the state did not match both the enthusiasm and number of supporters who registered supports for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi.
“”Now, within the four angles of human conscience, who rigged the former Anambra State Governor out in Akwa Ibom?
“”As announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Labour Party,LP emerged with a third position scoring 132,683 while the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC came second with 160,620 leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP with 214,012 clinching the first position . With a degrading margin, which is far below the expectations of the people, who had presumed that Labour Party was going to grab a hurly winning going by its statistical standing.
“”A question begging for an answer is, who rigged the presidential elections in favour of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State?
Displayed results at the various polling units point to the fact that Labour Party had convincing number of votes in most of the Units, Wards, Local Government Areas. But the results which were later announced became contradictory.
“”For example, in Uyo Urban Ward 3, Ewet Technical College, APC scored 35,LP 86,PDP 6 votes. At Secondary School, Obio Offot, APC scored 40, LP 104, PDP 26.
Then in Obot Akara, Nto Edino 4, APC scored 33, LP 135, PDP had 45 votes while at PU 4, APC scored 9, LP 28,PDP 10. At PU3, APC scored 18,LP 123, PDP 19. At PU2, APC scored 31, LP 168, PDP 30. At PU1 , APC scored 25, LP 181, PDP 18.In Onna, Nung Idem 1, APC scored 8, LP 79 while PDP had 52 votes.
The ugly situation continued like that throughout the state!
