2023: Why Ikot Ekpene is backing Enoidem for senate – Unyime Etim
It is more news that Senate ambition of the PDP Senatorial candidate in Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial district, otherwise known as Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district, Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem is receiving wide acceptance across party lines in the entire Senatorial district.
For the people of Ikot Ekpene local government area, their decision to support the candidature of Emmanuel Enoidem who hails from Abak/Etim-Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency is hinged on the need to allow for justice, equity and fairplay. Above all, having assessed candidates vying for the red chamber from all the political parties, Enoidem stands tall, beating other candidates. Speaking with newsmen, Hon Unyime Etim, Chairman of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Council said “We are a liberal society and we believe in equity and justice, and would not do anything in the contrary”.
Speaking further he explained that from 1963 till date, Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency which comprises, Ikot Ekpene local government area, Obot Akara and Essien Udim has so far produced 5 senators. He said it would be morally and politically wrong to allow the same federal constituency to produce Senator again in the 2023 election, when Abak Federal Constituency in the same district has not produced a Senator yet.
He said Enoidem has the character, competence and capacity to represent the Senatorial district, hence the reason why the people of Ikot-Ekpene are queuing behind him in the forthcoming election.
According to him, “we can’t shift the goalpost in the middle of the game. Recall Oruk-Anam/Ukanafun federal constituency had a Senator in the person of Itak Ekarika, when his tenure lapsed, it was the turn of Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency, and we had Senator Emmanuel IbokEssien, from Ibok Essien, we had Senator Aloysius Etok from Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency. The same Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency again produced another senator in the person of Senator Godswil Akpabio in 2015. Akpabio defected to the APC and the party had to fill a replacement and then came Senator Dr. Christopher Ekpenyong from Obot Akara local government area in the same Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency in 2019. So, this time around, it is the turn of Abak Federal Constituency and Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem is the right man for the job””.
He explained further that the entire people of Ikot-Ekpene local government area had resolved to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the emergence of Emmanuel Enoidem as the next Senator in the forthcoming election.
