Who born dog: Alert on plot to denigrate Obong Bassey Albert (OBA)
The discerning members of the public are hereby alerted to a dastardly plot by some persons to denigrate the image and person of Senator (Obong) Bassey Albert Akpan, a leading gubernatorial aspirant in Akwa Ibom State.
Specifically, it has come to our attention that a Lagos-based agency which specialises in negative branding and stereotyping has been engaged to attempt de-marketing our Principal.
The plan, which involves churning out a series of negative materials for publication on social media, is to kickstart with a fraudulent manipulation of OBA’s speech at the Eket Senatorial District Reception on Saturday, March 6, 2022.
The agency, which has already mobilised its staff to Uyo, we gathered, is working hard to employ voiceover technics to twist the content of the Senator’s speech, particularly where he said “ who born dog?”
Whereas the original video-recorded speech of the senator at the said event is already in the public domain, it should be noted that Senator Bassey Albert’s “who born dog?” phrase was, within context, a simple emphasis on the right, need and determination of the youths to be free.
The issue was to the effect that time has come for the youths to be freed from starvation and hunger, which have been used as weapons to enslave them. Interestingly, even the governor’s preferred aspirant has publicly acknowledged the hunger ravaging the Akwa Ibom youths, with no meaningful plan to change the situation.
So, the question resonates: ‘Who born dog’ not to allow the youths to be free? ‘Who born dog’ to keep the youths imprisoned in hunger and penury? ‘Who born dog’ not to allow the youths to participate in choosing who governs them?
If democracy is about the people, the youths, often acknowledged as “the leaders of tomorrow”, must be duly involved in the leadership recruitment process. That, in summary, is the context of the “who born dog” phrase.
Therefore, no amount of fraudulent twisting or sponsored negative media will change that immutable truth. Rather, what is apparent is that OBA’s continued growing public acceptance, his intimidating experience and accomplishments, which stand him out among other aspirants, must be very unsettling to his opponents.
However, OBA will never descend to whatever low level they are trying to drag him into. He will always sustain his peaceful nature, despite subtle provocations. His love for peace made him step down in 2014 to pave way for the peaceful emergence of Governor Udom Emmanuel, from Eket Senatorial District.
Isn’t it ironic that blackmail, direct insult and outright coercion can then be used against such a man of peace and his supporters? Yet, we urge OBA’s supporters not be shaken, despite the antics deployed to force them to abandon their conscience.
As always, we maintain the firm belief that no man but God has the final say in human destiny. Consequently , we hold firm our trust in “that same God” who did it yesterday, knowing that He is able and capable to do it again!
