There is a near-outbeak of war in Akwa Ibom as Nigerian Army tackles IPOB invasion of Essien Udim, the boundary local government area with Abia State.
A heavy gun duel between Nigerian Army and the Indigenous People of Biafra have been reported as Army takes war to IPOB hideout in Ukana, Essien Udim Local Governmet Area, Senator Godswill Akpabio’s home
The Nigerian Army had stormed the IPOB hideout in the area after indication emerged that the Biafran secessionist group was behind the spate of Insecurity in the area.
Hoodlums suspected to be men of the Eastern Security Network, a security outfit of the Indigenous People of Biafra, had invaded and hoisted their flag in Ikot Akpan village in Ukana UWA West 1 after burning down the village head’s house.
Men of the ESN had engaged the police in a gun battle on Monday while trying to restore peace and order in the area, killing a police officer in the process.
The police officer that was killed was ASP Aniekan Obot and his house burnt down in his village, Ikot Afangna in Essien Udim.
It would be recalled that these hoodlums had attacked military checkpoint in Ikot Ineme and killed a soldier, burnt down army vehicle and carted away firearms last week
