Unyime Idem: Skill empowerment, panacea for unemployment
The Member Representing Ukanafun/Orukanam Federal Constituency and Deputy Chairman, Communications Committee of the House of Representatives, Hon. Unyime Idem says one of the ways to tackle unemployment in the country is through Skills Education and empowerment.
Hon. Idem stated this at Family Empowement and Life Enhancement Programme Championed by the Late Sampson Idiong’s Royal Family in Oruk Anam Local Government Area.
He stressed the need for people to, in addition to educational certificates back up themselves with life enhancing skills for self employability and applauded the late Sampson Idiong’s Royal family for the distribution of Empowerment and life Enhancement equipment to indigenes of the Local Government Area.
Hon Idem while addressing participants from across the 16 wards of Oruk Anam at the event which was held at Primary School, Ata Obio Akpa in Oruk Anam Local Government Area argued that the only way to tackle the employment problem in Nigeria is for people to rely more on skills, which he said stimulated his desire to empower his constituents.
Rep. Idem commended the family of Late Sampson Idiong for keying into the vision of Empowerment and challenged others to emulate same.
Idem explained that it was in recognition of the importance of skill acquisition programme as a panacea to address unemployment in the country that prompted him to commence the sustainable skills development and Empowerment of five thousand indigenes of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency.
The Federal Lawmaker who assured of the yearly Empowerment of his constituents with life enhancing equipment said the gesture has to be emulated by leaders across board to make life easier for the people.
The Innovative and inventive Lawmaker advised the beneficiary of Late Sampson Idiong’s Family Empowerment and Life Enhancement Programme to make proper use of the equipment to justify the essence of the provision.
He advised that people should be empowered with skills that will enable them to combat hunger while also moulding them to be independent individuals and employers of labour.
Idem pleaded with those who are yet to benefit from the empowerment program to be patient, as subsequent phases of the programme within the Federal Constituency will accomodate them.
He used the occasion to announce the second phase of his empowement of 1500 constituents by December 2021 .
The People’s Representative at the ceremony performed the symbolic presentation of equipment to the beneficiaries. They included minibuses, tricycles, Motorcycles, sewing machines.
The event was well attended by guests within and outside Akwa Ibom State.
