UKANAPOLY Acting Rector Charges Matriculating Students to Approach their Studies with Enthusiasm, Diligence
The Acting Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Ukana Akwa Ibom State, Dr. Mrs. Mercy Ebong has charged fresh students to approach their studies with enthusiasm and diligence, describing their journey in the Polytechnic as not just about earning a certificate, but embracing knowledge that would prepare them for challenges of the future.
Dr. Mercy Ebong gave this charge while giving her address during the 9th Matriculation ceremony of the institution held at the Main Campus of the Polytechnic, Monday 26th February, 2024.
According to the Polytechnic boss, students are expected to prioritize their academic pursuits, recognizing that excellence in education is a foundation for personal growth and societal development.
In her words ” we formally induct a new cohort of talented individuals into our academic community , embarking on a journey of knowledge and personal growth. It is crucial to recognize that matriculation goes beyond mere formality. It represents a commitment from both the institution and students . As an institution , we have put in place everything necessary to provide the students with the best education they can ever imagine. This includes highly qualified lecturers, sophisticated laboratories , engineering workshops, and spacious and comfortable lecture halls in a serene environment. We expect the students to embrace the opportunities, responsibilities, and values the Polytechnic community upholds.
Dr. Ebong, sternly warned students against engaging in cultism and other social vices, emphasizing the negative impact such activities can have on both individual lives and the Polytechnic community as a whole.
“We will not tolerate any form of misconduct that jeopardizes the safety and well-being of our students. Cultism and social vices have no place in our academic environment. We expect each one of you to uphold the values of integrity, respect, and responsibility,” she asserted.
The matriculation ceremony saw goodwill messages presented by friends of the Polytechnic and the traditional signing of the matriculation register by the new students, symbolizing their official induction into the academic community as they embarked on their educational journey at Federal Polytechnic, Ukana.
The Matriculation Ceremony which had over 500 Matriculating students from 8 departments of the Polytechnic which includes: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical/ Electronics Technology, Science Laboratory Technology, Statistics, Business Administration and Management and Accountancy, also had goodwill messages presented by friends of the Polytechnic.
