SSEB Chairman chides public school teachers over poor attitude to work

Following recent poor and non-chalant attitude to work, the Executive Chairman of State Secondary Education Board (SSEB), Dr. Ekaette Ebong Okon has chided public school teachers in the State.
She has therefore advised the teachers to take their work seriously, adding that henceforth, the Board will no longer condone such lackadaisical attitude.
Dr. Ebong Okon who expressed her displeasure in a remark she made at Comprehensive High School, Ntak Afaha, Ukanafun Local Government Area when she embarked on an unscheduled inspection visit to the school.
The Board Chairman, represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr. Joseph Eton, said she was shocked to discover that the first term 2020/2021school year results were yet to be released to students serveral weeks into second term.
While frowning at such urgly situation, she ordered that the results be released to students within four days.
She also warned teachers in the school to desist from reporting to school late as well as not being at the classroom to teach the students.
It was discovered that during the visit, all the classes were without teachers to teach. This, the Board Chairman described the act as unprofessional and unacceptable, warning that severe sanctions will be given if sure repeat itself.
However, at Community Secondary School, Urua Ekpa Enang, the SSEB Chairman was pleased to see that almost all the teachers were in their duty post and were teaching as at the time of the visit. The Chairman commended the principal and then advised that teachers should always be monitored to be sure that they cover the syllabus.
At Community Secondary School, Nkek, the Board Chairman told the newly appointed Principal posted to the school to do everything possible to always keep the statutory record straight, adding that she should establish and maintain a cordial relationship with both the PTA and the host community.
She expressed satisfaction on the ICT facilities provided in the school and called on principal to advise the benefiting students to make good use of them to ensure qualitative education.
The monitoring team which comprised of Directors and some senior staff of the Board, also visited Western Annang Secondary Commercial School, Ukanafun, and Ukanafun Local Education office.
